International Indigenous Research Conference 2024

Kia ora e te whānau,

Researchers from He Toa presented at the International Indigenous Research Conference in Auckland. There were three parts to the presentation, which began with an overview of the project by Cheyenne Kohere, a draft framework for assessing wellness pre, during, and post military to civilian transition by Candy Cookson-Cox, and finally a kōrero from Caine Tauwhare and Jamie Emery about their experiences with whakairo and pounamu pilgrimages on the Arahura river with military personnel. This was a great way to showcase what He Toa has been up to and to get our research out to those who have no idea about the veteran experience.

Caine Tauwhare talks about the carving of the waharoa with soldiers at Burnham Military Camp

Jamie Emery presenting about his experiences on a pounamu pilgrimage with Caine for mauri stones for each of the Forces
